International Women’s Day 2024: Inspiring future female economists

International Women’s Day this year celebrates diversity and empowerment, encouraging everyone to #InspireInclusion. In the first of our new film series, ‘Women in Economics at Bristol’, we asked our academics and students which female economists have inspired them.

This year’s International Women’s Day asks us to inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion. Here at the School of Economics, our latest film series delves into the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality in economics.

In this film, we explore the thoughts and experiences from our female academics and students to find out the women, both past and present that have inspired them.

Dr Danielle Guizzo, Associate Professor in Economics Education, explains: ‘They all faced certain barriers, but they gave us a great example of how to succeed.’

Ihsaan, BSc Economics and Management student said: ‘Seeing someone from my background validates my dreams, it enables me to know that I can realistically meet my goals and makes me dream even bigger than what I’m aspiring to be.’

Many thanks to Dr Danielle Guizzo, Dr Uta Bolt and Dr Yunzi, and students Lucy (BSc Economics and Politics) and Ihsaan (BSc Economics and Management) for sharing their experiences. You can share your thoughts and inspirational economists on our social channels: X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
