On Wednesday 5 March, the School of Economics held the first ever All-Economics Football Tournament.

All economics undergraduate and postgraduate students, academics, and professional services staff were invited to take part in the mixed-gender competition, held at the University’s Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. There was an overwhelmingly positive response, with nearly 90 people signing up to play and many others supporting from the sidelines on the night.

Six teams competed across hard-fought but good-natured group matches in round 1, with the two group winners and two runners up progressing to the semi-finals.

Nearly 90 students and staff signed up to take part in the event.

The first semi-final was a closely matched encounter – a penalty shootout being required to separate the victorious ‘Falcons’ from the unlucky ‘Jayhawks’. The second semi was also a tight game, in which staff team ‘Whiteboard Wildcats’ were defeated 1-0 by ‘Eagles’.

In the final, ‘Falcons’ triumphed 3-0 over ‘Eagles’ to not only secure victory in the ‘Battle of the Birds of Prey’, but to also claim the All-Economics Football trophy.
