Postgraduate graduation stories 2025: Being part of a diverse, inclusive community

Chandraboli at the University of Bristol economics graduation reception

At last month’s economics graduation reception, we spoke to Chandraboli – who’s completed her second economics master’s degree at Bristol.

She shared what it’s been like to be at the University and at the School of Economics, and how what she’s learned on the MRes Economics can help with her future ambitions…

What are you most proud about of your time at Bristol?

Being a part of the Bristol community, because this is my second master’s degree at the University – I’ve completed an MSc before my MRes.

Being a part of such a diverse, inclusive community that there is both in the economics department and beyond the economics department in the University.

I just feel so proud to be a Bristol alum at this point – I’m very excited about that.

What were some of your favourite things about studying at Bristol?

I love the professors and the teachers who taught us all the modules, they were really great.

I also love the study spaces that Bristol has to offer. So, I enjoyed going to Queen’s Library and Will’s library for my coursework – that was really, really nice.

What advice would you give to someone considering an economics degree at Bristol?

If you’re thinking about it, just do it.

If you’re already using the gears of your brain to think that okay, I’m going to do economics – it’s going to be worthwhile.

You’re going to learn so much. The people are great, the faculties are great. There’s such a diverse student group.

I’m very sure you’re going to enjoy it – so, all the best!

What are your plans now? How has your degree prepared you?

I am currently looking for jobs relating to research – research assistantships. And then garner more experience, and then go into a PhD.

My course was really technical. We had modules in advanced econometrics, programming languages like Stata and MATLAB – those are kinds of software a lot of think tanks use.

I’m hoping that everything that I’ve learned, the theories, the concepts, and also just the practical use of economic and economic theories – I can put those to use in a more real-world field. I’m excited for that.
